Rush opens with characteristic aplomb. A man is perched on the ledge of the roof of a city building and he’s not coming down. He’s no John Doe; he’s the police minister and just as his fate is being sealed, the tactical response unit’s fierce leader, Kerry Vincent (Catherine McClements), is being snookered into a deal with her new political boss that will sideline members of her team. There are more intrigues than there are solutions in the first episode of the new season of this Melbourne-shot police show, which deftly establishes what promises to be an overarching storyline around the police minister and a powerful businessman. There’s also a new and unwelcome member of the team, Charlie Lewis (Antony Starr), whose presence immediately sends ripples through the unit. It’s a promising start to what is the pick of the crop of local police shows.
